Well, I was invited with a couple of my close friends to join them for the Bristol Renaissance Faire! Naturally, I was like, “I have Grace, too!” and now Wisconsin is in the books.
I don’t know about other Renaissance Faires in the country, but I definitely say it was super kid friendly. The only unfortunate part of this particular trip is: A) It was August and 85 degrees of blistering sun and B) Grace is super afraid of characters with masks on. The first part created a bit of a challenge. She was drenched in sweat despite wearing only a light tank and shorts. I kept her hydrated, lathered in sun block, fanned AND the occasional splash of water on her face and hair.
Other than that, you are forewarned that kids LOOOOOVVVEEE rocks. There were plenty of your average, on-the-ground rocks that Grace was collecting (and putting in my hand) and then plenty of fancy rocks and crystals she found super majestic. I was told by one of the employees at the fair that all the kids loved the endless supply of rocks.
Enough about rocks. There were plenty of performers (even some meant just for adults near their pubs on the ground) and even a children’s area filled with hobbit houses, boats and slides, performances and even Mother Goose herself reading to the kids. Grace was obsessed with the Hobbit house and kept going back whenever someone left one unattended.
The great thing about Wisconsin is that it is one of the neighbor states I am actually more familiar with. Growing up, it was a popular go to vacation spot for me and my family. More particularly, we went to the Dells more times than I can count. It is the waterpark capital of the world but it also had so much more! Please expect a Wisconsin part dos in the near future. I love the Dells and Grace is at the perfect age for so much of the kid stuff (and there is a lot).
In the end, I highly recommend you go to a Renaissance Faire at some point of your life. It’s magical and I love how into everyone gets! Plus, it’s the perfect time for you to pull out that fairy costume and flower crowns. You would blend right in!
Love, Veronica & Grace
P.S. Sorry for the camera quality! I did not take my usual camera because it was just me and the heat and a packed stroller. I used my iPhone for the pictures, some with a clip on wide-angle lens from Amazon!
Featured outfits: I cannot speak to what Lauren (on far left) and Denee (second to left) are wearing, but it’s probably amazing. I am wearing a blue Maxi from Target and a flower crown from a small shop that is no longer around ( 😦 ) and Grace is wearing jean shorts Cat & Jack from Target, Frozen light-up shoes from Walmart and Star Wars tank from Liv Rich Boutique (code GRACE15)
